A senior government official resigned amid an investigation into alleged corruption by the Jamaican state agency that he led, reports AP (July 25, 2006). Vin Lawrence, chairman of the Urban Development Corp., offered his resignation to Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller nearly a week after the contractor general released a report about the Sandals Whitehouse luxury hotel project in Westmoreland parish. The hotel exceeded its construction budget by US$40 million (euro31.5 million), topping out at US$110 million (euro86.7 million).
