Aug. 21--There's no shortage of controversial figures in the area of animal welfare.
But certainly for sheer durability, if nothing else, you can't beat Bruce Fritch, who has been leading the Lehigh County Humane Society for more than 25 years.
Fritch and his board have been accused of crying wolf about their finances, resisting efforts by other groups to work cooperatively, unwillingness to adapt to new ideas, killing animals too quickly and other faults. I have a folder full of accusations people have sent me, some of them anonymously. Fritch told me he has been "demonized."
