NEW ORLEANS _ The big-deal defense lawyer was feasting at Galatoire's, a venerable French Quarter restaurant that locals love and can get into more easily nowadays, without so many tourists standing in line.
Waiters came to shake his hand. He kissed women at this table and that. People popped up from their bernaised lamb chops or plump Gulf shrimp and approached him for a hug.
I didn't know his name, so I decided not to hug him. It was early in the evening, anyway, and I hadn't yet had enough to drink even though Galatoire's is on Bourbon Street, where booze continues to upstage water as one of Earth's essential elements. ...
