HOME Secretary John Reid has reacted angrily to news that the Scottish Executive has backed plans to axe one of Scotland's busiest A&E departments.

Monklands Hospital in Airdrie is losing its casualty department in a shake-up which has sparked fury.

Under the move, 30,000 people in Airdrie will have to travel to Wishaw Hospital or Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride for treatment.

Dr Reid - whose Airdrie and Shotts constituents fought the closure - said the decision was "flawed" ...
