Hailed as the uncrowned queen of Iraq, Gertrude Bell spent her life exploring the Middle East. Her knowledge of the region and its people was so extensive that, during the First World War, she became an advisor to British Intelligence and was instrumental in establishing Faisal as king of the newly created state of Iraq.
