CORRECTION (ran 8/25/2006): Master gardener Duane Hatch left the Oregon State University/Lane County Extension Service in 1982 to take a similar post in Utah. A report on Page C1 Sunday incorrectly said he retired when he left the Lane County agency.
For 14 years, the Hatch Patch at the Lane County Fair has offered a leafy refuge in a swirl of hot asphalt and boisterous crowds, a place to catch your breath and also pick up a tip or two about growing the perfect tomato.
