The common perception of German wine is that it's "naff", and "sort of sweet". For so long dominated by Liebfraumilch and brands like Blue Nun or Black Tower, its popularity has waned dramatically over the past 25 years. Yet, people of a certain generation, usually in retirement, find the insipid sweetness pleasant.
