THE coconut tree, grown in 68 of the country's 79 provinces, has been referred to as the tree of life. The label comes as a result of the fact that from the coconut tree are derived a continually expanding list of products and by-products that have made the coconut industry a consistent major dollar earner for the country, providing livelihood to one third of the country's population.
