Aug. 20--Two mining projects near Nome have received state and federal permits to allow construction to begin. The Rock Creek mine, six miles north of Nome, and the Big Hurrah mine, 42 miles east of Nome, are being developed by NovaGold Resources Inc., a small Vancouver, B.C.-based company that is also involved in development of the Donlin Creek gold mine near the Kuskokwim River.
In a related matter, NovaGold is engaged in a heated defense against a takeover bid by its partner in Donlin Creek, Barrick Resources, a major mining company. NovaGold has also filed suit against Barrick over an offer that company made for Pioneer Metals ...
