SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The Santa Barbara County Resource Management Department on Tuesday denied Chevron Corp.'s request for an emergency permit to transport Point Arguello crude by tanker to Los Angeles.
The department disagreed that the Jan. 17 earthquake caused an emergency that requires Chevron and its Point Arguello partners to continue tankering offshore crude oil.
Chevron spokesman Mike Marcy said the company would not appeal the decision.
"We will have to face up to the fact that the county doesn't consider it an emergency," he said.
The refusal means Chevron will have to cut Point Arguello output below peak production of 85,000 b/d ...
