Aug. 24--TOKYO -- Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Thursday it will seek 50 million yen in compensation from the companies responsible for the Aug. 14 major blackout in Tokyo and nearby Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures that lasted about three hours.
The power utility is considering filing a compensation claim against Mikuniya Co., a construction company based in Kamisu, Ibaraki Prefecture, whose crane damaged power lines during dredging work, and Obayashi Corp., a Japanese construction company that had placed the work order with Mikuniya.
The compensation includes costs for exchange and reinforcement of the lines that were damaged, Tokyo Electric said. It is ...
