Aug. 24--A couple weeks ago, I was thinking about all the things that made my recent visit to Amherstburg, Ont., fun, when I opened The Blade and saw the town was in the news. A raging fire at the Enviro-Tech Plastics plant had sent smoke billowing over Lake Erie. My first thought was that it probably was the most excitement the historic Ontario rivertown has seen since the War of 1812. And that's a good part of its charm. One of the oldest settlements in the province, Amherst-burg is a relaxed and tranquil haven, as well as a cruising destination with an intriguing history, good restaurants, and scenic waterfront parks.
