Aug. 25--Palm Beach County added more than $11 million Thursday to a biotech bidding war developing with St. Lucie County in a scramble to land the Torrey Pines Institute of Molecular Studies.
The day after the company signed a letter of intent for a deal to take its 189 jobs north to Port St. Lucie, Palm Beach County officials countered by sweetening the pot for a headquarters in Boca Raton.
Boca Raton, Florida Atlantic University and the county would each pay $3 million to $4 million more in the new bid to lure the California-based nonprofit research and development company, Deputy County Administrator Verdenia Baker said.
