Aug. 25--CERRO GORDO -- The Cerro Gordo school board approved a balanced budget for the 2006-07 school year at its meeting Thursday night.

Because the budget is balanced, said Superintendent Brett Robinson, the state will not require a deficit reduction plan from the district.

The district's budget calls for direct expenditures of $4.426 million.

"If the state would pony up like they should," said board member Terry Curran, "they wouldn't have to worry about unbalanced budgets."
