Aug. 25--Bids for the new city utilities service center were opened Thursday.

CDI Inc. of Terre Haute submitted the lowest base bid of $2.9 million. Each bid also listed estimates for extras on the city's wish list for a new building.

The highest priced of those items were rainwater storage tanks and renovation of the inventory room.

The bids now will be reviewed, and the goal is to have a recommendation for the Utilities Service Board at its next meeting Sept. 5.

Utilities project manager Mike Hicks said he was happy with the bids.
