Aug. 26--BONIFAY -- Marianna gave Holmes County every opportunity to win Friday night, but the young Blue Devils faded in a 40-20 loss in the season opener for both teams.
Surprisingly enough, the outcome was in doubt until two late Bulldogs' touchdowns sealed the win.
Marianna turned the ball over four times and had three TDs called back due to penalties. Holmes County, which started three ninth-graders and fielded a roster of players with little or no varsity experience, even had a short-lived lead. But Marianna proved too powerful.
