WHO would want to join a country with an inflation rate of 16% a month and an economy shrinking by 12% a year? Probably only citizens of a country with an inflation rate of 80% a month and an economy shrinking by 15% a year. Whatever their economic calculations, the voters of Crimea, a peninsula extruded into the Black Sea from Ukraine, will soon get a chance to express their views. At the end of January they elected as president of their territory a Russian-nationalist committed to holding a referendum on Crimea's secession from Ukraine. All the signs are that on March 27th the Crimeans will vote to go, probably back into the arms of Russia. Even if that did not ...
