Enver Pasa was already a well-known figure in the Ottoman Empire prior to his achieving pre-eminence as war minister and chief strategist of the Ottoman forces in World War I. He was lucky enough to have been posted in Macedonia, center of the revolt of 1908; and he was bold enough to be among the first to oppose openly Sultan Abdulhamid.
