Aug. 28--You're sitting at a public WiFi "hotspot," perhaps in a coffee shop or a hotel lobby, and you really want to buy a book from Amazon.com or check your bank balance. You get a queasy feeling in your stomach.
What if cybercriminals are lurking, just out of sight, to steal your financial information and leave you penniless? Don't panic.
Despite all the publicity about security flaws in wireless Internet access, there are no documented cases on record -- at least none that several experts I contacted last week can cite -- of individuals having their identities stolen while using a WiFi hotspot. For anyone ...
