The PC industry will soon get a glimpse of how computers and cable interact on tomorrow's data superhighway.
Cable suppliers Comcast and Viacom plan to conduct field tests early this year delivering America Online and Prodigy online services via a cable modem. The device is being jointly developed by General Instrument (GI) and Intel Corp.
Although the prototype may differ from the final production version, Intel expects it to be a PC adapter card with an input for coaxial cable. The company was unclear whether the initial configuration might require an external device as well.
