When St. Paul native Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper plugs in a series of electrical cables at the International Space Station this week, she will help bring an end to a nearly four-year break in the nation's space program.
Now set to lift off Monday as the first Minnesota woman in space, Stefanyshyn-Piper is scheduled to perform two of three spacewalks during the 11-day trip to help increase the space station's electrical capacity.
When the 43-year-old Derham Hall High School graduate goes out on the first spacewalk, she will mark the first time since November 2002 that astronauts have worked on space station assembly. The ...
