CUSTOMERS flocked to stop the flood of unwanted junk mail yesterday.

The Royal Mail helpline was swamped by calls as the great junk mail revolt swept the country.

But there was anger when people who got through found that the opt-out service comes with a scarcely-veiled threat.

If they want to stop the daily cascade of junk mail, which is set to get even bigger, they risk not getting national and local government communications which could contain vital information.

Post bosses insist they cannot filter the junk mail so customers must get all or nothing.

The revelation led to accusations that Royal Mail was blackmailing millions ...
