Aug. 29--Battered by a plummeting stock price, the Journal Register Co. yesterday announced that it is exploring a sale of its Rhode Island and Massachusetts newspapers, including dailies in Pawtucket, Woonsocket and Fall River.
Robert M. Jelenic, Journal Register chairman and chief executive officer, said the company is looking to divest itself of what it calls its "New England cluster" to focus on other regions and online operations.
