Location: Squaxin Island, in southern Puget Sound. Access by private boat only.
Squaxin Island State Park provides a beautiful view of both Peale Passage and Harstene Island. Ideally situated near the southeast corner of Squaxin Island, its 30 acres are sheltered from the southerly winds.
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission acquired a portion of this tract in 1961, and the remainder in 1965. Although Washington owns the uplands, the local Squaxin Indian tribe retains ownership of the tidelands. A lease agreement is maintained, making access to the park boundary possible.
