Aug. 31--HARLINGEN -- Some city commissioners Wednesday said they were ready to scrap a proposal to build a police station and a soccer complex on part of a public golf course after residents rallied against the plan. Commissioner Eddie Medrano spearheaded the plan to build on nine holes of the Tony Butler Golf Course that face the frontage road of Expressway 77. "Obviously, there's a lot of concern about utilizing those nine holes for police and soccer and as of today we are looking at alternative sites," Commissioner Jay Meade said.
