Consumerism has been a red-hot topic in health care circles for several years. Now it's moved into new territory - vision insurance.
Spectera, a Baltimore-based vision insurer that covers 17 million Americans, recently launched a new plan that incorporates the core elements of consumerism - letting individuals choose the option that best fits their specific needs.
Tom Davis, Spectera's chief sales officer, observes: "It's a unique concept in the vision community. I'm not aware of anyone else doing it."
