Sep. 1--I know golfers police themselves. I realize they're all gentlemen. I understand the world's unpleasant realities can't get past the country club gates.
But I used to think all that about priests and churches, too.
Which leads me to wonder why PGA commissioner Tim Finchem is burying his head in a sand trap.
Finchem contends professional golf doesn't need drug testing. Apparently, his game is above the sordid scandals enveloping less regal sports.
And besides, said Finchem, golfers are so unfailingly honorable that if one were using performance-enhancing substances, he'd turn himself in.
