PITTSBURGH -- Citizens for Pennsylvania's Future (PennFuture) today praised the ruling by the Pennsylvania Environmental Hearing Board (EHB) to permanently protect the stream above proposed longwall operations at the High Quality Mine in Fallowfield Township, Washington County. This resolves all but one issue of a case which began in November, 2004 when the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) ordered UMCO Energy, Inc., (UMCO), the company which owns High Quality Mine, to restrict its mining to the room-and-pillar method and refrain from using longwall techniques in the area below the stream.
