Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz is wisely proposing greater investment in Madison's water quality and supply.
Cieslewicz wants to fix the city's aging water pipes, filters and wells by boosting the budget for the Madison Water Utility. This could mean higher water rates for 2007, on top of a similar and requested increase for this year.
But the money is needed to ensure public health and to restore public trust in the city's tap water.
The City Council should support the mayor's plan after careful review and, if needed, minor tweaks.
