Sep. 5--The average upstate New York family will shell out $1,000 more at the gas pump this year than last year, according to U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, but that isn't stopping people from packing the faithful automobile and speeding out of town for one final summer getaway this Labor Day.
AAA estimates 29.6 million people will still travel by car this holiday weekend, and with all this anticipated driving, local tourist destinations are confident in a successful last hurrah to close the vacation season.
