Carl Sherman is a member of the State Fair sanitation crew, working "the poop and puke patrol," removing unwanted surprises from the fairgrounds from 7 a.m. to beyond midnight. He's ready for the fair to end.

"We've got a running tally in the sanitation department about the messes we clean up, from animal poop to human poop," Sherman, 31, of Duluth, said last week while he shoveled a deposit left by a pair of horses just five feet from a grandstand entrance.
