Sep. 7--Marana Town Council members voted Tuesday to give themselves $180 a month to pay for cell-phone service and driving across town. The mayor will get $230 and the vice mayor $205 each month. The council members will get that amount whether or not they use their personal cell phones to conduct town business or drive anywhere on behalf of the town, and they won't have to document their cell-phone usage or in-town mileage. Under the current arrangement, which gives council members 40.5 cents for every mile they travel, a council member would have to travel 247 miles in one month to get $100, the amount of the mileage stipend.
