WASHINGTON -- The vapor pressure of gasoline in St. Louis will be cut to a new low this year, an idea promoted by oil companies as a cost-effective alternative to reformulation.
The Missouri Air Conservation Commission voted late last week to require a cut in Reid vapor pressure (RVP) in the St. Louis area to 7.2 pounds per square inch from the existing summer-season level of 7.8.
The requirement also will extend the season, starting June 1, to Sept. 30 rather than Sept. 15.
