WASHINGTON -- Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc. has received Food and Drug Administration approval for a generic version of Pfizer Inc.'s Xanax XR.
Known under the generic name of alprazolam extended-release tablets, the panic disorder drug will compete in a market that has sales of about $83 million, according to IMS Health. Barr's product will be in 0.5-, 1-, 2- and 3-mg strengths.
Pliva Inc. has been granted final approval for a generic version of Zithromax, another Pfizer product. The agency has also cleared Lavipharm SA's generic version of Duragesic, the pain patch marketed by Johnson & Johnson. Mylan Laboratories had been the only other company selling a ...
