Sep. 8--NEWPORT NEWS -- It appears Ernesto did more than shut off power, flood streets and cause undue damage across Hampton Roads. Seems Ernesto was a bit of a snake charmer, too. When Newport News Park flooded between Friday and Saturday, the rising water gave the snakes no vegetation to get out of the water. So they climbed onto whatever was available, namely trails and bridges. Those trails are closed for hiking until next week.
