Sep. 10--University of Texas at Austin associate professor Pat Somers is convinced that Sept. 11 will have a long-term influence on today's younger generation in the way that Pearl Harbor and the Kennedy assassination did on previous generations. Dr. Somers, who studies student behavior, began to hear from colleagues about how the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C., were factoring into students' career decisions, choices of majors and even personal relationships.
Three years ago, Dr. Somers launched a project on the 9/11 generation. She talked to 120 students at colleges throughout the Midwest. ...
