Sep. 10--AUSTIN, Texas -- The sweltering temperatures originally forecast for the Ohio State-Texas game never showed up.

Neither did the close game everyone was calling for in this matchup of No. 1 against No. 2, the first during the regular season in college football in 10 years.

But the key for No. 1 Ohio State in its 24-7 win over No. 2 Texas was who did show up -- the Buckeyes' defense.

Ohio State's defense, with nine first-year starters, was the question mark coming into the season and still was the biggest unknown about OSU coming out of last week's opener against Northern Illinois.
