Location: 12 miles from US Highway 89, near Kanab.
Contrasted by blue skies and steep red cliffs and outcroppings, Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park is the perfect setting for camping, off-road riding, picture taking, hiking or just relaxing and playing in the sand.
The park was established in 1963 with land purchased from the USDI Bureau of Land Management.
Geology
The dunes here are created by wind heading between Moquith and Moccasin mountains. The wind is funneled through this notch, gaining speed to a point where it can carry sand grains from the eroding Navajo sandstone. This phenomenon is known as the Venturi Affect. Once the ...
