There are monsters in those mountains! And you can see them at the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park, a showcase of eastern Utah's geologic past and natural history. The field house, situated in downtown Vernal, is strategically placed between the Uinta Mountains (the largest single east-west range in the Western hemisphere) and the Uinta Basin (a petroleum-rich, intermountain valley). Together, these two features encompass almost three billion years of earth history. Their fossil record covers more than 600 million years and includes all forms of life from primitive algae to highly advanced mammals.
