Partnerships in arts education: an examination of factors predicting schools' use of arts organizations.

Despite strong public support and growing evidence of its benefits, arts education is suffering from hard times in the nation s schools. One of the strategies adopted by schools to address this problem is to harness the expertise of arts organizations. In 1999, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) board members approved a ten-year, multimillion-dollar program to implement a substantive, sequential curriculum in arts education for all public school children in kindergarten through twelfth grade. A core component of the plan is to develop and implement supplemental arts education programs with the Los Angeles arts community.
