Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston and TriCore Reference Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM, are among a growing number of hospitals and laboratories implementing bar-code solutions to help improve lab workflow, reduce lab errors, and improve patient safety.
This trend has been supported by a number of industry initiatives and regulations, including the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the College of American Pathologists, and the University Health Systems Consortium (UHC) Bar-Coding Task Force, which in 2005 released its recommendations for the adoption of bar codes at point-of-care technology.
