Sep. 13--MANCHESTER -- New Haven Mayor John DeStefano, the Democratic candidate for governor, told a small group of supporters Tuesday that Connecticut lacks a comprehensive strategy for homeland security and that Gov. M. Jodi Rell has been "missing in action." DeStefano and his supporters stood in a Manchester industrial park, near the headquarters of Namco, where an explosion and fire in a warehouse in July 2001 created a plume of smoke from burning swimming pool chemicals that forced evacuations. No serious injuries, however, were reported. Namco no longer stores pool chemicals at the site, former Manchester Mayor Steven Cassano said. ...
