Sep. 13--DECATUR -- Alexander Hamilton's legacy to the United States far exceeds a portrait on the $10 bill. An illegitimate son who immigrated to America from the West Indies, Hamilton became a soldier, an author and, as the first U.S. Treasury secretary, a major craftsman of federal monetary policy. His story will be revealed in a free exhibition, "Alexander Hamilton: The Man Who Made Modern America," that opens today at the Decatur Public Library and runs through Oct. 15.
