Sep. 13--The physical complaints of Gulf War veterans are real, but the symptoms don't add up to a unique syndrome with a specific name, according to a report by the Institute of Medicine. The Department of Veterans Affairs sponsored the study to figure out whether men and women in combat during the 1990-91 Gulf War had any environmental exposures that could have contributed to the physical and mental complaints reported when the troops returned home.
