The European members of the Advanced Lead-Acid Battery Consortium have been awarded a contract under the Brite-Euram II programme of the European Union for research into lead-acid batteries for electric vehicles. The project entitled 'The development of improved lead-acid batteries for electric vehicle service which are maintenance-free and fully recyclable' is scheduled to last four years and has a total budget of about 4 MECU (|pounds~3 million).
