Sep. 13--EGLIN AFB -- Reclined in the seat of his F-16, the squadron commander had a high-flying view of the Air Force's newest missiles at work.

Lt. Col. Dave Lujan of the 86th Fighter Weapons Squadron at Eglin Air Force Base flew chase recently during four of eight launches of armed Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles (JASSM). The Weapons System Evaluation Program took place at the Utah Test and Training Range on Aug. 29-31.

Lujan's squadron makes sure bombs and missiles developed at Eglin's Air Armament Center work as advertised, and then some. JASSM is a $5 billion program, and the Air Force plans to buy more than ...
