Let's face it, just needing and deserving the money isn't going to be enough to get you the money any more--if it ever was. If you want response, you must be willing to give donors a good deal of satisfaction. I think the writing process of turning your needs into donor satisfactions is something like learning to play tennis left-handed (if you're not left-handed already, it's not a natural act).
Once in a while I get a letter that can be used to illustrate the process of turning your needs into donor satisfactions. A family friend who was doing some pro-bono work for a local agency sent the letter that appears below to me and asked if I could review it.
