A new chemical storage code created by the National Fire Protection Association could force businesses to undergo expensive renovations.
The code in question, NSPF 400, is being compiled from a number of other codes to create a new, streamlined document and eliminate inconsistent language.
"There is really nothing new in there," said Carl Rivkin, principal chemical engineer for Quincy, Mass.-based NFPA. "All of this has already appeared in some other document or code."
But pool and spa industry members say that is only partially true. What concerns the critics is the way NFPA 400 addresses chemical classification.
