Article: Henry Lawson's early start as a writer.

Henry Lawson is often considered to be the first truly Australian writer. His works have been reprinted many times and he is celebrated in a number of ways. There was at one time a Henry Lawson Society in Sydney and there is a bronze statue of him near the eastern entrance to the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney. There is a long running Henry Lawson Society in Melbourne which meets regularly each month to read and recite Henry Lawson poems and his act out his stories. In an easy atmosphere they hold an annual celebration on Lawson's birthday in a Melbourne park where there is a bust of Lawson.
