Sep. 14--Ex-Marine Claudia Mitchell didn't lose her left arm in battle, but she is the first woman to be fitted with a thought-controlled bionic arm that the U.S. Defense Department plans to begin offering this year to soldiers who have lost limbs in Iraq and Afghanistan. A resident of Ellicott City, Md., who lost her arm in a motorcycle accident two years ago, Mitchell is slated to help military amputees adjust to bionic arms like hers, developed at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
